The Death of Jovian

Jovian was 32 years old when he died and had ruled the empire for just 8 months. Some sources point to carbon monoxide poisoning, while others point to poison mushrooms. I really don't see how the empire survives the next few years or even the next few months without some kind of disastrous civil war.
