The History of the Lance
The sword was often used more like a spear or a mace when fighting an armored opponent. Your three main nightly weapons were the spear slash Lance, then the pole acts and then the dagger. The lances would have had those coronel tips most likely to be better at unhorsing because they're designed for that. In a war situation, unhorsing is nice, but you really just want to kill them.
