The Role of Glucose Variability in Type 2 Diabetes

There is quite a lot that you can see of this role of glucose variability in particularly in this development of microvascular and macrovascular complications of diabetes. But we need to be very careful of pointing to studies of long-term glucose variability in people with type 2 diabetes and extrapolating that to people that are normal glycemic or without diabetes, as they're notably two very different things. Even if pure glucose is administered such as with an oral glucose tolerance test the main difference is over a two hour post-prandial period compared to a mixed meal. So it's important to again just be mindful of what the experimental if we are talking about short-term glycemic variability.
