The Effects of Fructose on Liver Fat

A study that I think is perhaps more instructive of whether there's differences in monosaccharide type on liver fat was by Johnston and colleagues. In an isocaloric state, there was no increase in body weight or an intrahepatic triglyceride,. i.e., liver fat or in triglycerides themselves. But in hypocaloric conditions, we saw an increase in liver fat in body weight and in triglycerides. And those adverse effects were not observed in the context of energy balance. So this would look really more now to be indicating an effect of the contribution of sugars in thecontext of hypercaloric conditions.
