COVID-19 - The Morning Glory Cloud
The catastrophic Australian bushfires that engulfed the traditional country of Aboriginal people burned for months early last year, scorching 12.6 million hectares of land. Billions of trees and a billion animals were transformed into 434 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The fires affected millions of people and the Royal Commission on the Wishfires was told during a hearing that the smoke from these fires killed hundreds of people. In our culture when someone dies a smoking ceremony is part of the morning but after these fires there was no national ceremony of mourning for what we lost. Here all the land is a sacred temple or cathedral and is safeguarded through strict knowledge systems and practices.
