The Challenges of Teaching Machine Learning at Scale

Some 20% of students at the University of Toronto are international. The time zone issue was a challenge, as were other challenges such as student anxiety and loneliness. Students have learned how to work with different tools when they come to class but there's always limitations to that. One of the key challenges is that it was hard to know if you're participating in an effective classroom or just not listening because people don't turn on their cameras.
