Also in rotten history on February 27, 1968, 55 years ago this week and 107 years to the day of Russia shooting and killing people in Warsaw who were protesting against Russian imperial rule. Walter Cronkite had just returned from South Vietnam after a first hand look at the state of the US military effort there. His shocking comments combined with the even greater shock of the Tet Offensive itself were soon credited with helping to turn mainstream American opinion against the war in Vietnam. In the changing American opinion on the war contributed to Lyndon Johnson's decision not to run for a second-fold term as President.
