ED Diagnosis: Chicken Guas, West Nile Virus, and Cardiovascular Infections
Chicken guñas is a mosquito-borne disease that's typically seen in very hot and humid climates. West Nile virus can also be transmitted by blood transfusion. Myocarditis and infective endocarditis are both tough diagnoses with vague presentations, but they're potentially life-threatening. If you think your patient isn't appearing sick, hold antibiotics while you get multiple cultures.
