Neil Sheehan got the Pentagon Papers from Daniel Ellsberg. He didn't know whether he'd ever be able to write another book, but he did. After the War Was Over was an account of Vietnam as he encountered it on a trip back in the summer of 1989. A Fiery Peace in a Cold War told the story of Bernard Shriver, the Air Force officer behind the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile System. Neil Sheehan died of Parkinson's disease on January 7, 2021, at his home in D.C.
