Dark Matter and Dark Energy - What's Going On?

Geologists and paleontologists already knew, from fossil evidence of what life had been doing, that the sun must have been shining on the earth for a billion years at least. Then nuclear physics was discovered, and it was applied in great detail to the physics of the interiors of stars. Since then, the theory of stellar evolution has matured. We now understand what makes a star shine. But there is no neat explanation that solves that particular problem. There must be a resolution to this. Theories are wrong, observations are wrong. It's a problem. we don't know what to say.
