The Origins of Supermassive Black Hole

There's a long running mystery in explaining where supermassive black holes come from. Many people think that they form from stars that collapse in on themselves, and then over time sort of slowly accrete more and more matter. There's another theory that they can just form from huge amounts of gas in the early universe. But we haven't actually ever seen these. Just having one piece of evidence so far back could be really helpful.
