The Mysterious Death of an Elephant
In May 2020, elephants suddenly began to drop down dead. By 2021 more than 400 carcasses had been counted. The cause of the mysterious deaths has been blamed on natural bacterial poisoning from algal blooms in the elephant's water holes. But some like Anna wonder whether the elephants were also weakened by disease. Other scientists argue that the elephants in this area are trapped and can't roam as far as they naturally would. Local farmers can legally shoot an elephant if they can prove it's threatening them or damaging their fields. So Magita and his team are helping farmers like Dimbo Kajidizuro keep the elephants out.
