Speaker 3
Peter, Matt and Molly, are you ready? Born ready. Yeah, like Batman, I stay's ready. Yes, I'm very ready.
Speaker 1
Wonderful. Then it's time for the
Speaker 3
Declaration of Grace. In this round, our
Speaker 1
debaters will present a well-crafted immersive argument in favor of their side. Then they'll each have 30 seconds to rebut their opponent's statements. We flipped a coin and Peter, you're up first. Tell us what makes the spectacular Spiderman so amazing.
Speaker 4
Oh, hi, I didn't see you there. Now I know what you're probably thinking. Peter, are
Speaker 2
you currently in a terrifying freefall high over the streets of New York City?
Speaker 4
Guilty as charged. But hey, that's what happens when you try to interview Spiderman while he's busy battling the Green Goblin. A villain who famously loves dropping innocent bystanders off buildings, but don't worry. I'm sure Spiderman will swoop in at any second
Speaker 2
and save me. Any second now. Oh boy, here
Speaker 2
sidewalk. Okay, Spiderman at any time. Spiderman. Wow, Spiderman, thank you. You really? Sorry, no time to chat. I'm a little tight up. Wow, Spiderman. Was there ever a cooler here with cooler powers? I mean, look at him literally run up the side of that building
Speaker 2
and use his super human strength and agility to jump a hundred feet in the air. Take that Spiderman!
Speaker 2
And his incredible Spidey senses let him dodge incoming attacks using only instinct. Oh, and his web shooters? Hey,
Speaker 4
Green Goblin. Ah, that's a wrap. You've tied
Speaker 2
me up with your silly webs, curse you Spiderman. Peter, don't forget about my coolest power of all. What's
Speaker 2
my webs to swing from building to building through the streets of New York City. Oh, yeah, I was just about to. Sorry, gotta go.
Speaker 2
leaving again. That's cool. See you Spiderman.
Speaker 5
Man, so cool. Who
Speaker 5
zips through the city like that? I do. Huh? I'm Batman. I zip around the city in my super fancy private jet. Oh, I mean, bat wing. It's called a bat wing. Right. Or I can use my grappling hook. Ah! Oh darn it. Jammed again. That can happen sometimes. It's okay. I could still make a cool exit. Hey, what's that over there? Huh? Oh, Batman, run away. Oh, you didn't see me. Oh, I'm cool.
Speaker 2
Well, when it comes to powers, Batman's got nothing on Spiderman. Now, before you tell me, Batman doesn't need powers because he's such an interesting character. You could stop right there. No one is as interesting and relatable as Peter Parker. When Spiderman was first introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, it was a game changer. Before that, you had superheroes like Superman or Batman, an alien from Planet Krypton, a butler billionaire vigilante? Not exactly relatable. But Peter Parker was just a regular kind of awkward high school kid who got bit by a radioactive spider giving him fantastic abilities. For the first time, comic book readers saw a hero who not only had to save the world, but also had to worry about the same things that they did, like homework or bullies or figuring out whom to ask to the dance. Tell me about it. Oh,
Speaker 5
Peter Parker? Yeah.
Speaker 2
Hey, Peter, can we talk? You know, Peter to Peter? Yeah, sure, Peter. Sometimes I feel like life would be way easier if I could just be Spiderman. Hey, I get it. People really like Spiderman. That's why he's in so many movies. In fact, there's been three different live action franchises about you. Oh, yeah, I know. I love that Tom Holland. Yeah, and there's the animated Spider-Verse movies. You know that first one won an Oscar? There's even movies just about the Spider-Man villains. Yeah, those ones are weird, I think. Yeah, totally. Yes, but that's how much people love you, Peter. Thanks, Peter. No, thank you, Peter. No, thank me.
Speaker 5
Huh? I'm Batman. Ha ha, smoke palm. Oh, dang it. Sometimes you get a dud. Well, anyway, I guess I'll just walk away.
Speaker 2
All right, well, then see you later, Batman. Well, anyway, I should probably get going. Yeah, yeah, totally. Oh, hey, Spider-Man, if you're not too busy, I was wondering, would you? You want to swing around the city, don't you? Yes, please. All right. Hold on tight. Yeah, Spider-Man's the best. Whoa,
Speaker 4
whoa, this is very scary. No, no, no, no. Wow, an exhilarating,
Speaker 1
swinging declaration of greatness there with double the Peters double the fun. Now, Molly to Molly, what's it
Speaker 2
out to you about Peter's declaration of greatness? Something that really stood out to me were all of the really, really funny references and jokes. And I really wanted a lot about how they designed Spider-Man to be relatable.
Speaker 1
Very interesting. All right, Matt, it's time for your rebuttal. You've got 30 seconds to wash away the itsy bitsy spider and your time starts now. That was
