Base layer transactions will become increasingly used for settlement transactions. Swan Bitcoin is optimized for automatic, recurring purchases and one-time buys. If transaction fees are averaging $50 for the base layer, those small transactions would be better with lightning. Ultimately, Bitcoin is comparable to Fedwire, as a massive settlement network that can do about five transactions per second.
