The Evolution of Postmodernism

In the academic world postmodernism is largely claimed to have died out. But most of you will recognize these ideas in the social justice scholarship and activism that we see today. That's because they didn't die out, they evolved. The first wave of postmodernism did die away by the middle of the 80s. By this time the civil rights movements had begun to show diminishing returns. Within 20 years huge leap forwards inequality had been made. Ironically this was the same time the original postmodernist was saying it was time to give up on the myth of progress.
