Dutch has a lot more of those consonants pronounced in the back of the throat, and English once had a lot of those two. Those sounds were decreasing in the seventh century when the first scribes began to write down the language. And that doesn't mean that Old English lost all of those sounds. In fact, Old English has retained quite a few of them.
