I think that there has always been a a set of contradictions between human beings and nature. We see, even in the early stages of capitalism, what we call the expropriation of nature. The metabolic rift caused by industrial agriculture was a product of industrialization. So it is a qualitatively new phase, just as the industrial revolution was itself.
