Think data partitioning. It's important to have this data stored in multiple places, especially if you're trying to really skill you're apt. When a lot of people are looking up lady gaga and she's in one shard, that can make it so that that server is overloaded just because of lady gaga. And again, there's jhist horizontal and vertical movement. Horizontal is putting things across servers, and the vertical is just scaling that server up.
