The Origins of Machmura Bas

In 1851, the Italian politician Benadetto Mussolini wrote a book in which he called for a Jewish municipality in the Holy Land under the sovereignty of Turkey. The first people to have the idea that the Jews in a national state would be speaking Hebrew was the evangelicals. In 1908, Zangville admitted to a London court that his 1901 statement was, quote, naive, and has since realized that the density of the Arab population in Palestine is about twice that of the United States. This is the origin of the saying, Machmura Bas. I remember maybe it was a couple of years ago, he quoted this in the name of Theodore Herzl. He thought Herzl invented
