The working class in Russia fought heroically, well first they had to deal with the First World War where they were conscripted into the arms industry and it was very long terrible working hours. Then you have the revolution which in the sense is a great energiser of all people but then again after then to try to rebuild the economy again required a tremendous amount of effort. And so the working class by the late 20s and then you had what you described effectively the moralisation that the workers of the West couldn't come to the assistance of the Russian workers. So I think this is the kind of situation and this was what Stalin could base himself on and the state bureaucracy could base themselves on
