"It is not sustainable for us to keep leaning in to these systems of oppression," she says. "I believe that people function off of self-interest and need to survive, right? And when we realize that we cannot survive on our own, we're going to start to try and create bigger and bigger tents."

Alicia Garza is an American Civil Rights organizer and writer best known for co-creating the international Black Lives Matter movement. Garza has become one of the most influential voices on the planet in a movement centered around the liberation of black people from authoritative systemic violence.
