Awakening From Separation to the Whole
Smart describes watching as this douglas fir that had been injured by insects sent chemical warning signals to a ponderosa pine growing near by. The pine tree then produced exactly the fence enzymes it needed to protect against the insect so the trees are sharing information that serves the well being of the whole forest. And like old trees and dying trees send extra nutrients and other signals to surrounding trees to kind of serve the regenerative capacity of the new forest going forward.
