Ep. 109 Die Frau Ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss
Opera For Everyone
The Importance of Procreating
In the play, Barak wants to be surrounded by children just as he was when he grew up. He has a wife who for her own reasons does not want to have children and has not had children though they have been married for several years. The central tension of their marriage is she is not infertile but chooses not to have children. In the context of this play, that is seen as a negative.
