The act of ending the self is not something that can be studied in other animals, so it remains this very poorly understood action and in predicting it. Some people may have the thought of suicide because there seems no point. It's one of the most frustrating things at the suffering that is linked to suicidality. We're very bad at understanding it and we're relatively poor at predicting it. And our tools are not very powerful.
