The Role of Social Media in Gender Equality
A norm perception is my beliefs about what other people in my community think or do. So for example, if I have a stereotype that because someone is a woman, she's likely to be a good carer or a good nurture. By going out to the high street, by observing that community, I see what's accepted and condemned. And in order to gain prestige and respect, I can form an opinion on these issues. This fosters 'pluralistic ignorance', especially in authoritarian communities where you underestimate extent of resistance.
