Schmidt expresses some contempt for the liberal bourgeois view of life, but that criticism can be left as much as right. German romanticism was something very important to many of the conservative revolutionaries such as arthur muller wandenbruck. Schmidt's later turn to the intellectual right was thus perhaps not preordained.
