Is There a Terror Management Theory in Psychology?

The one thing that distinguishes humans from all other animals is we know we're going to die. I think you can make the argument that human beings have a certain kind of metacognitive awareness. And I'm not sure that animals have that sophisticated level. Probably they seen death more than humans have, depending on the animal.
