Vaccines for MERS
The main point of our article is that some research isn't just useful for the for a single pathogen but has positive technological spillovers or positive externalities for other areas of research. We are very fortunate that there was research going into the MERS virus and the original SARS-CoV virus because specifically research into the antigens on these viruses could be used to develop vaccines against future pathogens. How could we incentivize this? The whole concept of advanced market commitments I think is it's just so brilliant and it's done so much good for the world as you mentioned with the the pneumococcal vaccines, really deserving of the Nobel that they won.
