In the wake of the fire he insisted that all streets be laid out more regularly on a grid. He banned party walls connecting one property to another and legislated for portacos around large buildings. The Flavians capitalized on this by demolishing most of Nero's burnt zone, including his giant artificial lake where they put the Colosseum.
