The melancholic can either be this wonderful romantic sort of exquisitely sensitive person who feels all things in life very deeply, or the melancholic can be someone who broods in a very self-indulgent way. I think Hamlet really demonstrates that brooding that makes him unwell is unable to take appropriate actions. And when the actions happen, it's just a mess. So we've been talking about melancholy as this loss that somehow can't be reckoned with,. That takes on an air of yearning and longing and an ache that can be very generative. Or it can become very stuck in a groove.
