Horses, Donkeys, and the King's Steed
The donkey or the mule is associated with peaceful rule, while the horse is an animal of war. When the prophet zachariah foretells the coming of a new king to restore the people's fortunes, he is identified by his riding of a cult the foal of a donkey. This recalls the blessing of jacob over his son judah, and some of the most glorious and tragic episodes in israel's history.
