The Importance of Luck in Meaningful Life

Do luck play a part in whether your life is meaningful or not? A recluse could do something that then goes off to other people and helps them anyway. There's also the possibility of someone who writes great poetry but the poetry is lost or destroyed by the person himself. Was his life meaningful for writing the great poetry even though no one else appreciated it?
