Scott: In my post on Enlightenment experiences, I wrote that the explanation I found most plausible was information processing in the brain switching to some new attractor state if you force it hard enough. Andres suggests all of this as a good match for oscillatory coupling between brain regions which he says, quote, dissolves internal boundaries. Scott writes, This matches Bizaki's description of brain waves as dividing conscious cognition into a series of time steps. It also matches the typical new-ager experience of vibrations in quotes or vibes in sufficiently altered states.
