What Is the Biggest Threat to Modern Physicists?

The de muon is part of the standard model required to explain why other particles have mass. It cost billions of dollars in 50 years to find this thing, and it was on the front page of every newspaper in the world. A lot of the physicists involved in this search were really hoping it wouldn't be found. They were really rooting for it dod not be there, so that they would have to go back to the drawing boards and find a new theory.
