Diversity in the Bar Is Crucial
I wondered what you thought about diversity in our profession, not just the protected characteristics. How are we doing any better in law? Well, we're doing better than we were. But there's an awfully long way to go. I am particularly worried by the current difficulties, problems in the criminal bar. Low rates of pay will have a disparate adverse effect on people from less affluent backgrounds. And that is despite genuine, good faith, enormous efforts made by the Judicial Appointments Commission and senior members of the bar.
