What's the Original Analogy of a Word?
Hofstadter talks about how it, there's actually degrees. There are some words where we use the word and if we really stop and think about it, we can figure out what the original analogy was. We don't even know what the original meaning was. The word is just itself now at this point. And then there's others where we think of it as an analogies that we don't think of as analogies. Up is a word that has more meanings in how we use it than it's baffling the myriad ways we use theword up.
