In the 1830s, President Andrew Jackson signed into law something called the Indian Removal Act. Thousands of indigenous Americans died because they fought back and didn't want to leave their homes. Sadly, a lot of their ways of tattooing died along with them. Today, other indigenous tattoo artists are finding ways to preserve what indigenous groups like the Mississippians lost.
