The Body Budget Is a Metaphor
The brain's most important job is coordinating and regulating all the systems of your body. If you have inefficiencies, it's like a little drag on the system. It adds up slowly over time to become diabetes, heart disease or depression. So for example, if you are in a situation that is socially stressful within two hours of eating a meal, that meal is digested in a less efficient way to the tune of 104 calories. Like 104 calories for three meals a day times a year is 11 pounds.
