Myths Are Not Just Theories About the World

Myths are not just theories about the world that are divorced from action. Rather, myths are value laden and they are in relation to us. We humans, we have goals. We understand the world. Therefore, in relation to our goals, our ambitions, our need to form plans, to make commitments, to overcome obstacles and so on, myths capture this in these value rich narrative stories. So when we're looking at these myths, ancient myths, religious myths and so forth, the right question to ask of the myths is not, is it true? The right question is, is it relevant?"
