Disentangling Jim

How do we judge intellectual movements as as critics? We often think that the way we should judge movement is by its best practitioners, not by its worst practitioners. So i don't take the worst, say, you know, old institutionalists or worst, old historicists, and view them as the one that i want to be a foil against. I try to take the best practitioner.
