The Problem With Culturally Appropriate Education in Schools

The entire schooling system needs to bend itself around every possible home and community culture or else it's the problem. Ah in Jordan termed culturally appropriate pedagogy of teachers in a Hawaiian school who incorporated aspects of students' cultural backgrounds into the reading instruction. By permitting students to use talk story, a language interaction style common among native Hawaiian children, teachers were able to help students achieve at higher than predicted levels on standardized reading tests.
