The materials used to make most TV batteries have become much more expensive over the last few years. China has about 7% of the world's lithium reserves, while South America has over half. Over 80% of all lithium ion batteries in the world were manufactured in China in the last year. If EVs and other battery-reliant renewable energy tech is going to become a key component of our economy in the near term, that could give China a lot of leverage over the United States.
