I love using urine sodium as kind of a marker of what the patient is excreting. And so I tend to use this in patients where they're either having like a post kidney injury diuresis or they're having a large amount of output. So if there's serum sodium is where you want it to be and you want to maintain it, then you can give them basically what they're peeing out back in IV fluid form.
