The History of Opium

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, acknowledged opium's usefulness as a narcotic. The ancient greeks who held the opium poppy sacred, claimed it was a meter goddess of agriculture who discovered it. In the fourteenth century, the catholic church began to stigmatize opium use. Opium would become big in europe again around 15 27, during the height of the reformation.
