CHAPTER

The Cup of God's Anger

When Jesus uses the phrase, he's specifically thinking about being killed by Roman oppressors. The anger there is simultaneously the wrath of Rome and the wrath of Israel's leaders. Another important strand in here is Jesus' understanding of his death as being a cosmic confrontation with demonic spiritual powers that have hijacked the kingdoms of this world to be instruments of injustice rather than justice.
