The Impacts of Prohibition on Alcohol Consumption
Prohibition did not prohibit the commercial manufacturing and distribution of alcohol. Alcohol consumption declined, as did cirrhosis death rates for men in 1911. Advertisers were declining to have ads published that promoted alcohol before prohibition. Violent crime did not increase dramatically during prohibition.
