The Battle of Hamburg
Hamburg air raid in July 1943 was 'unprecedented' by wartime standards. The aim of the bombing has always been to kill as many Germans as possible, he says. If any other nation had received what Hamburg received it would have made them question whether they could continue the war. But when you're facing an opponent who regards military sacrifice and death as part of the whole thing then there is a price that must be paid.
