The Effects of LDL Cholesterol on Immune Cells
A plaque is not just LDL cholesterol. It's LDL cholesterol and Apo B containing lipoproteins that have been eaten engulfed by macrophages. There are immune cells that live in your arterial walls and they eat this LDL. They eat the LDL because the LDL looks like a bacteria at a high level. So we don't fully understand how LDL gets from the bloodstream to inside of the arterial wall.
