How Do We Quantify the Quantity of Knowledge Creation?

The most rapid wealth creation is due to capitalism, and then free trade. It's the tradition of criticism that really allows for human flourishing. We can't measure something unless we've got a unit of it. But let's say you could. Isn't there a difference between deep foundational knowledge and just more derivative knowledge? At the moment, that's the rate of two cars per second of knowledge creation or something like that.
