Aquinas' Order of the Sciences

The order of the sciences is grounded in Thomas' metaphysics of knowledge. Just as perception can't be at rest until it knows the object, so too is natural philosophy ordered towards metaphysics and finds its fulfillment there. The disciplines according to the order of generation begin with natural philosophy before proceeding to the study of being in metaphysics.
